Now that the Quarterly Journal of Engineering Geology and Hydrogeology (QJEGH) has reached volume 52, it is timely to consider and review the significance of papers published in it over 50 volumes and a little more than a half-century. Articles published in the journal over this period on landslides have related to conditions in Europe; North, Central and South America; Asia; Africa; The Middle East; The Indian Subcontinent; Australasia; and, extraterrestrially, on Mars. The coverage of topics within landslide science and engineering has been similarly diverse, with papers on coastal and inland slopes, shear strength measurement from back analysis and laboratory tests, and field recognition of landslide morphology on the ground and from aerial photography - in the Martian case, from satellite photography.
