英文摘要	Understanding fishermen's perceptions of fishery management can provide important insights into the ecological outcomes of management measures, the perceived legitimacy of governance processes, and the social outcomes of regulatory policies. Using semi-structured interviews and feedback sessions, we directly engaged with fishermen to better understand their perceptions of fishery regulations in two of the state of California's highest value fisheries: California market squid and California spiny lobster. Results highlight fishermen's overall support for fishery management, as well as support for the specific regulations in each fishery, with lack of support often indicative of a desire for stronger, scientifically-backed management measures. Marine protected areas were the most controversial type of regulation in both fisheries, reflecting fishermen's desire for greater participation and inclusion in decision-making processes, as well as a need for better communication of ecological monitoring outcomes. This work contributes to an understanding of the factors influencing support for fishery management, which have significant implications for the long-term effectiveness of management initiatives. Our study further demonstrates the importance of local knowledge to develop a shared understanding of fishery systems and address management challenges, as well as the importance of communicating with fishermen to support the development of effective and sustainable policies.
