Assessing future tsunami hazards from Japan trench coupling with sea level rise impact on economic risks using an input-output table

英文摘要In recent years, the risks of various natural hazards have been predicted to increase because of the effects of climate change. In particular, rising sea levels due to climate change are likely to strongly influence tsunami hazards. Estimating the economic risk caused by tsunamis and evaluating the impacts of sea level rise are useful in formulating long-term disaster management policies. However, the impacts of rising sea levels on the tsunamiinduced economic risk is unclear. In this study, to evaluate the effects of sea level rise on both the hazards and the economic risks of tsunamis, we estimated both of these factors for the current sea level and for multiple scenarios of sea level rise. For this purpose, we created a tsunami inundation map referring to a hypothetical earthquake and tsunami based on a giant earthquake model along the Japan Trench and a great outer -rise tsunamigenic earthquake. Numerical calculations were then performed using the tsunami simulation model TUNAMI-N2. The amounts of direct and indirect damage to Japan as a whole were estimated from tsunami inundation data and an economic model using an input-output table. As a result, we ascertained that in the event of a similar disaster in the future, 1 m of sea level rise would increase the total amount of damage across Japan by 70% in the Japan Trench model and by 162% in the outer -rise model. The results also revealed the vulnerability of places such as To over bar hoku and Kanto over bar , which was determined to be particularly susceptible to rising sea levels.
