英文摘要 | The editors are issuing a note to alert readers of a potential problem with data in this study. The authors contacted PNAS ahead of publication to request a delay, noting, “We recently received Pacbio sequences of Emiliania huxleyi (long-read nuclear and chloroplast transcriptome sequencing). A first annotation of this data revealed a mistake in the previous annotation of the psbA gene, which we used to design our smFISH probes presented in this study. The original probes we used in the paper were designed based on a Emiliania huxleyi transcriptome that predicted the gene structure using Illumina short-read RNA sequencing, thus our probes are only partially covering the psbA gene. We are presently revalidating our results to assess the possible implications of the previous misannotation of the E. huxleyi transcriptome. Importantly, the viral probes are all validated, thus all main findings concerning viral infection dynamics in the lab and in the field are fully confirmed.” Unfortunately, the request was not caught in our production process in time to stop publication.
