Energy harnessing from banana plant wastes: A review

英文摘要Fossil fuels are limited and exhausting at an accelerated rate. To address ever-expanding energy demand and alarming deterioration of the climatic condition, researchers are compelled towards alternative feedstock for energy generation, which supports carbon neutrality. The quest leads to lignocellulosic materials such as banana biomass. It is one of the major agro-waste and seems promising for bioenergy production, especially in tropical and subtropical countries. The prime objective of the present study was to analyze research trends and findings in the context of banana biomass processing into biofuel and put forward recommendations for future research. This review gives a detailed account of the banana biomass availability, its structural topology, biochemical compositions, and applied pretreatment modules. Finally, the possible routes for the conversion of banana biomass into biofuel are discussed. A state-of-art review revealed the superiority of biochemical conversion over other routes for efficient energy recovery. Elsevier Ltd
