Land-Margin ecosystems and global change

英文摘要Land-margin ecosystems exist at the interface between the land and ocean and are comprised of intertidal zones (including salt marshes and mangroves), estuaries and bays, and the shallow continental shelf. They encompass a very small part of the world's oceanic areas, but are disproportionally important to human societies, providing living space, food, recreation, ports, waste assimilation, and protection from the ocean forces. These ecosystems have been tremendously altered by human uses, both along the coast and within catchments draining to them, and are highly vulnerable to climate change via sea-level rise, warming, changes in freshwater runoff and ocean circulation, and to acidification due to increased atmospheric CO2. © Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht 2014.
