Towards Sector-Wide Market-Based Climate Action

Carbon Mechanisms Review published

  • News 27.11.2020

The latest issue of the Carbon Mechanisms Review magazine, entitled "Scaling Up", analyses sector-wide climate action as a way towards upscaling as opposed to the project-by-project approach known from the Kyoto mechanisms, like joint implementation (JI) and clean development mechanism (CDM). Projects carried out jointly by two developed countries that have both committed to an emission reduction target under the Kyoto Protocol fall within the scope of joint implementation. The clean development mechanism works in a similar way to JI. The main difference, however, is that CDM projects are carried out in a developing country that has no reduction obligation.

The issue begins with an in-depth analysis of a dedicated sectoral initiative, the Nitric Acid Climate Action Group, portrayed in both an article and an interview. Other articles look at the connection with the transformational change debate and present views from Article 6 pilot programme managers.

The Carbon Mechanisms Review (CMR) is a specialist magazine on cooperative market-based climate action. The CMR is published by the Wuppertal Institute on behalf of the German Environment Ministry (BMU). The issue "Scaling Up" can be downloaded under the link below.
